A Discussion on Experience in Repainting Cars

08 Nov, 2025

As the saying goes, "There are unexpected events in the sky." The same goes for driving on the road. It's inevitable to have some bumps and bruises. When such things happen, as car owners, in order to keep their beloved cars looking bright and beautiful, they can't help but pay for the beauty of their cars. But while we are spending money, do we know the knowledge of car paint repair? Now, let Jia Sheng Industrial introduce to you the professional experience of car touch-up painting!

First of all, regarding car paint, the vast majority of commercial cars in the world have steel bodies. To prevent rust and maintain a good appearance, car paint is indispensable. Then let's talk about paint first.

Automobile paint

Car paint is generally baking paint. In the car factory, after the welding of the frame and body is completed (sometimes manual repair is also carried out), the next process is painting. Generally speaking, the first step is the primer. Immerse the smooth car shell into the syrux-like paint tank and take it out to dry the primer. Then it is sent to the dust-free workshop and the topcoat is sprayed with electrostatic spray paint. Then dry it at around 200 degrees. For those who are more meticulous, an additional layer of clear varnish will be applied. In this way, the painting process is successfully completed. There are several types of general topcoats: ordinary paint; Metallic paint; Pearlescent paint. Ordinary paint needs no introduction. It involves resins, pigments and additives. There is too much aluminium powder in the metallic paint. So it looks bright after completion. For pearlescent paint, mica particles are added. Mica is a very thin sheet, so its reflection has directionality, thus creating a colorful effect. If it is metallic paint with a clear coat, the car's paint will look very bright and beautiful. In terms of color, white is undoubtedly the cheapest. For instance, world-class brand red pigment is approximately 25 times more expensive than world-class brand titanium dioxide. The amount of titanium dioxide used in white paint is about five times that of red pigment. Therefore, the cost of using red paint for color is five times higher than that of white paint. This is the reason why some domestic cars come in so few colors and varieties: simple and low in cost.

No matter what color the paint is, its pigments will fade under the sun. In fact, not only car paint, but any colored object may fade under the strong sun. At this point, the type of additives added to the paint becomes very important. For instance, light stabilizers, antioxidants and so on. Unfortunately, good additives are very expensive. Often, the quality of additives determines how this kind of paint gives people a feeling. People will surely think that a certain kind of paint that starts to show obvious fading after two years is worse than one that remains as shiny as new after five years. But in fact, there is no paint that never fades. Often, what manufacturers pay more attention to is: uniform fading. Try not to cause color differences in different parts of the car.

When you get a new car, the part that is most prone to damage is the paint. If you are not careful when washing your car, the car paint will get damaged. In fact, even when loading things on the production line, there are incidents where the paint is damaged.

For minor abrasions, there are scratches on the paint surface, and the scratches are whitish. That's because the paint surface has been scratched. There is no need to repaint. For light ones, apply sand wax or wax several times. For heavy ones, a polishing will do. In more severe cases, the color of the lower primer can be seen (many times, the primer is of a dark color). Then, please take another look at the location of the scar. Generally speaking, parts such as bumpers, rearview mirrors and wheel arches of some cars are made of engineering plastics. It won't rust. Apart from being ugly, there's no major problem. It doesn't matter whether the paint is touched up or not. For the rest, then the car needs to be repainted. Otherwise, even a very small damage will cause the steel plate to start rusting. At that time, even if it is repainted, it will be very difficult to prevent rust.
